Top Ten Tuesday: New Authors Read in 2016

Nafiza

Hmm. I am generally very brave about trying out new authors so the majority of the books I read are by people whose books I haven’t read before. I mean, books take time to be written. If you read only authors you know, you would have very little reading material. Here are some of my faves from the new authors I tried in 2016:

  1. Ken Liu (The Paper Menagerie and Other Tales)
  2. Claudia Rankine (Citizen: An American Lyric)
  3. Zen Cho (Sorcerer to the Crown)
  4. Grace Lin (When the Sea Turned to Silver)
  5. Victor LaValle (The Ballad of Black Tom)
  6. Shailja Patel (Migritude)

Setting aside picturebook authors and illustrators for the sake of a manageable list, here are a few of my favourites from 2016:

  1. Shira Glassman (the Mangoverse series)
  2. Zen Cho (Sorcerer to the CrownSpirits Abroad)
  3. Kathleen Duey (Skin Hunger)
  4. Seanan McGuire (Every Heart a Doorway)
  5. Joseph Bruchac (The Winter People)
  6. Becky Albertalli (Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda)
  7. Esme Kerr (The Girl with the Glass Bird)
