With evocative and vivid art, Marc Martin’s A River straddles the fence between fiction and nonfiction. Educators will find they can use this picturebook to teach their young students lessons about the environment and how rivers affect changes in the landscape. The art will keep children immersed in the story while questions about the perspectives will keep them engaged.

I also recommend this for use in art classes. There are many ways the art can be deconstructed and taught. I had a lot of fun reading this picturebook though admittedly I liked it more for the art than the prose which is dryer than I generally expect in a picturebook.
