Silver Dolphin Books: Fairytales

I received a package in the mail the other day and my niece immediately pounced on it because she knows I get picturebooks and the like in the mail often. She waited while I opened it and then her eyes grew as big as saucers when she Silver Dolphin Books First Stories series. I am not quite sure how many are there in this series except that I got three in the mail (Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Rapunzel) and they are all fairytales and quite possibly the best things ever.

These are board books with sliding features that very cleverly engineer a change of background and scenery in order to move the story forward. These push and slide features are interactive and make storytime a whole lot more fun. While the stories are accompanied by prose, I can honestly say that my niece paid no mind to my reading and insisted on telling me the story. All illustrations are bright and inviting and done by Dan Taylor.

You and your little one should have heaps of fun with these series. Definitely recommended.

I was also sent Beasty and the Beast: A Coloring Book featuring illustrations by Walter Crane. And yes, the illustrations are beautiful and the book also includes quotations from the original Beauty and the Beast story. This would make a perfect gift for someone who loves the fairytale. A bit too old for younger kids though as the illustrations are quite detailed. I’d say older elementary school aged kids would justify the intricacy of the designs better than younger ones who won’t. Or you could just keep it for yourself. I certainly wouldn’t blame you. *beam*
